Where to Find Western Food in Taichung

Taichung is not as Western friendly as Taipei but still has some great places that cater to those looking for Western food. Here are some recommendations to get you started while you search for your own favorites.

Finga’s

The classic western diner in Taichung. Finga’s is owner operated. Dereke Bruce has been serving Taichung their favorites for over 20 years. A world class bakery and some of the best comfort food in town.

Chili’s
台中市河南路三段 (NEW LOCATION on the 2nd Floor – Complete redone!)
The local manager, Joseph, knows how to take care of his western customers. This location won’t disappoint. A great meal, just like home.

Uptowner
台湾台中市西区华美街480巷1号
Great breakfasts and custom orders done right. A nice place for drinks and hanging out with friends also. Parking can be challenging if driving a car. Plan ahead.

Soho7 Burger
台中市西区华美街410号
Burgers really done well. One of Taichung’s favorites. Parking is challenging in this area. Plan ahead if you are driving a car.

Olimato Bistro
北屯区崇德九路568号; (04) 2422-1857
A relative newcomer located near the intercontinental baseball stadium and Morrison Academy just off of ChongDe Road. They serve a great selection of breakfast foods, including omelettes. The portions are overly generous and it’s a great meal.

Il Sonetto
No. 398, Section 2, Chongde Road, Beitun District, Taichung
I need to tell you this is my personal favorite for Italian food in Taichung. I haven’t eaten at every Italian restaurant, but of the ones I have, this one is closest to the taste I am used to. I don’t think you will be disappointed. Handmade noodles you can choose to pair with your sauce. Pizza’s, homeade breads. It’s delicious! Parking can be difficult in the evening, so plan ahead if you are driving. There is a parking lot above the El Capitan Grocery next door, but you need to spend $$ at El Capitan for free parking.

Vini’s Deli

Best sandwiches and soups in town. As well as a whole new section of cooked to order dishes added to the menu since their recent move to this location. A real pleasure to eat here. Be sure to check their facebook page for daily specials.

TGI Friday’s (2 Locations)

Another classic American restaurant. Both locations treat their customers well.

Naked Cafe
台湾台中市北区五权路408号
Don’t let the name fool you, everybody’s clothed. Great salads, sandwiches, drinks and one of the best potato soups in the city.

Gordon Biersch
台中市西屯区台中港路二段111号13楼
This restaurant on top of ShinKong Mitsukoshi department store is a great location for a drink or a meal. The food never disappoints and the chocolate cake is amazing. There used to be two locations in Taichung, but the one near the Carrefour is gone for now. The location at Mitsukoshi does not serve pizza (FYI)

Pizza Rock
Pizza Rock has multiple locations around the city. Their pizza, sandwiches and salads are great.

Early Bird Diner

A favorite hangout for locals and foreigners alike. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, all served well.

Little Fiesta
台湾台中市西区五权西四街107号
Most agree, this is the place to go for a full on mexican style meal. Not all agree on the quality, but if you are craving something from south of the border, this might hit the spot.
